SUMMARY:Cherokee Democrats GA | Rally in Solidarity with the Sunnyside community
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: 6/9\nIn light of the ICE raid on Saturday (6/7)\, we swiftly mobilized\, urging county law enforcement to not participate in the 287(g) ICE program. Sheriff Reynolds reached out this morning (6/9) to clarify that the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office does NOT presently have a pending application to the federal 287(g) program. This comes as a huge relief to our community\, and we appreciate him clearing this matter up. \nSubsequently\, we’re redirecting the 6/21 event to rally in solidarity with the Sunnyside community\, same time 10AM-12PM – location TBD. \n————————– \nThe afternoon of June 7 ICE raided Canton’s Sunnyside neighborhood with a fleet of dark unmarked cars and fully-masked federal agents. The images and videos are chilling. No warrants. No due process. Just shadowy para-military figures “disappearing” people. This wasn’t in another country across the world\, this was in Canton – OUR community. \nFascism won’t be defeated by temerity. We need to be bold\, loud\, and firm in our resolve. Warrantless raids and indefinite detention isn’t acceptable in Cherokee\, or anywhere. \nRegister for the Rally HERE \n\nRead the full statement from the Cherokee County Democrats Chair HERE
