Cherokee County Democratic Committee

On Tuesday night Democrat Debra Shigley officially forced a runoff in the race for Georgia Senate District 21, defying the odds and sending shockwaves through Cherokee County and the Georgia GOP establishment. Debra secured 40% of the vote, besting 6 other Republicans. She secured 62% of the vote in North Fulton, and a plurality of votes in Cherokee – more than double the votes of her Republican opponent.

Despite being outspent by over a million dollars, Shigley’s grassroots campaign persevered—proving what we already knew: when voters are energized, organized, and heard, Democrats overperform. The Shigley campaign made 12,000+ calls, knocked on 24,000+ doors, sent out 33,000+ postcards, and sent out 67,000+ texts. And the Cherokee Democrats played a major role in that. This campaign wasn’t a fluke, it was people-powered commitment.

Now, with all eyes on the September 23 runoff, we have a clear path to flipping this seat never before held by a Democrat.

Republicans dumped over $1.5 million into this race trying to buy it—hiring out-of-state consultants, paid canvassers, and a deluge of cheap mailers focused on auditioning for Trump, when the job is Cherokee. They underestimated our people. What they couldn’t buy was the energy of hundreds of local volunteers who made calls, knocked doors, and showed up for our neighbors. The math and momentum are both there. But we can’t do it without you. Sign up to volunteer and help us turn out every last vote:

This isn’t just a runoff—it’s a referendum on a 22+ year Republican monopoly on Cherokee County, the State House, State Senate, the Governor’s mansion, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Public Service Commission. Republicans aren’t just complacent with a sense of entitlement to power, they’re lapdogs for the ruling elites.

Ask yourself, who should the government work for: the people, or the powerful? Let’s make sure that on September 23, the people win.
