Chairman’s Corner
Good morning, Cherokee Democrats! Here’s a recap of our Thursday, June 11 meeting!
Committee Chair Updates:
-
Matt Malhiot is now our Veterans Affairs Committee Chair! We’re thrilled he has stepped up to fill this role!
-
We have an opening for Events Chair! If you’re interested in learning more about what that entails, please reach out!
Runoff Elections:
Election Day is Tuesday, June 16! Make your voice heard!
**Voters must go to their assigned polling location on Election Day.
Check mvp.sos.ga.gov for the polling location address and voter registration
information.
Reminder:
The Fourth of July parade is quickly approaching. Please consider walking with us to show Cherokee that Democrats do in fact exist in this county and we’re here to win! Coffee & Conversations is canceled for July so we can attend the parade.
Guest Speaker:
We got to hear from Danielle Bell, candidate for HD 44, which is one of the most flippable districts in Georgia this cycle! Danielle is a clinical therapist who hopes to serve in the Georgia legislature to solve the problems with our healthcare system.
As many of you already know, Danielle ran in the last cycle and was our top vote earner in Cherokee, even outperforming Kamala Harris by 3%. She received 37% of the vote in Cherokee in 2024 and needs 44% of the vote this cycle to win!
She won 41% of the vote in the primary. Her chances of winning are high but will be even better if you volunteer to help her knock doors, make calls, raise funds, and attend her events!
Check out her website and get involved in her campaign!
Postholder Elections:
We held Postholder elections and are thrilled to have a full slate of people who want to participate in the county party!
Please join me in congratulating our new and returning Postholders!
Democratic Party Georgia (DPG) Delegation Election:
DPG is hosting a convention in Savannah in August. Along with our State Committee Members, we elected five additional delegates.
Thanks to everyone who stepped up to run for all of these positions and who participated in the elections. All of you keep the party strong and will help take the Democrats to victory this November. ![]()
Get Out the Vote Committee
Julie Glade, Chair
Thank you for voting in the May 2026 General Primary.
Did you know we are in a runoff?
Although there is only one local candidate position in the runoff (CD 7) the runoff election is impactful with respect to the statewide races. Most importantly, larger voter turn out equals stronger influence, so we are working hard to increase the turnout and encourage everyone
Here are the races that did not meet the minimum vote for an outright win and advance to Runoff Election:
- Lieutenant Governor
- Secretary of State
- Commissioner for Insurance
- Commissioner for Labor
- U.S. House of Representatives District 7 (CD-7)
Let’s talk about how we’re getting out the vote and specifically how we get YOU—eligible, registered voters—out to vote on Tuesday, June 16:
- The committee is working hard to increase voter turnout and encourages everyone eligible to vote on June 16 get ready for your final chance to influence who will represent the Democratic Party in November.
- We are hitting hundreds of doors with runoff literature drops and actively phone banking. Email me if you want to help.
We are very excited about our newest opportunity to increase engagement: our neighbor-to-neighbor (N2N) program.
Several of our volunteers have lists of democratic voters in their neighborhoods. With the help of Stephanie Bolton, we have created an incredible flyer for use by our volunteers to approach their neighbors, promote the party and promote engagement. This is a very exciting program and it may very well be the most effective means for increasing engagement.

- If you did not vote in the primary or if you voted a nonpartisan ballot in the primary you can choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican ballot in the Runoff.

Our School Supplies Drive to support the teachers and students at Oak Grove Elementary, a Title 1 school located in Acworth, is underway.
The drive ends July 10.
We have two ways for you to help the students feel prepared and confident for the 2026-2027 school year:
- Purchase the school’s highest priority supplies directly from our Amazon Wishlist, and your order will automatically deliver to me; or
- Shop your favorite local store to purchase items on our Amazon Wishlist and drop in our collection area when you attend any of our events.
Every donation helps teachers provide the best possible learning environment for their students, and we are already grateful for a strong start since our June 1 launch.
Thank you for helping us making a positive impact on the students’ success.

The Service Committee partnered with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers to host a community blood drive on Saturday, May 23.
Despite torrential rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, we were proud to welcome 17 donors — including 8 first-time donors — whose giving will impact 24 patients in area hospitals by providing:
-
7 units of whole blood used to treat trauma and emergency patients; and
-
1 double red cell donation which treat sickle cell anemia patients.
We also extend a special thank you to the volunteers who assisted during the drive and to everyone who helped make the event possible.
Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of patients and families throughout our community.
