Public Safety

HB 308

This bill, previously discussed (see HERE), allows mini trucks to legally drive on the road as long as the trucks meet federal regulations and have a tag.

The bill passed committee.

HB 61

This bill, previously discussed (see HERE), began as a way to authorize separate license plates for ambulances and hearses and it has now been replaced entirely by HB 183, which did not pass committee in the house. This is a zombie bill designed to allow property owners to abuse the process to remove individuals lodging on the property, including families residing in extended-stay hotels.

Finance

HB 52

The bill proposes extending the homestead exemption on ad valorem taxes for qualified disabled veterans to include their surviving spouses (not remarried) or minor children.

The bill will return to committee at a later date.

HB 129

This bill allows non-family members renting farmland preservation to take advantage of the conservation use valuation assessment (CUVA) statute, which provides a reduced ad valorem tax rate on farming property.

HB 186

This bill eliminates the death tax on automobiles for immediate family members.

HB 370

This bill aims to enhance transparency regarding property tax exemptions within school districts; any school district opting out of the state-wide base year homestead exemption must disclose certain information on property tax bills. This disclosure includes the total amount of the district’s reserve funds, the date of the vote to opt out, and a contact number for residents to provide feedback
