The Cherokee Democrats have been informed that ICE will continue harassing our county and our neighbors. More agents are expected.
If you have a cleaning person, landscaper, painter, or any other home service worker scheduled this week, please consider postponing it. It’s too dangerous for them to be out this week!
I am reminded of a quote from Mr. Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”
Times are scary now for our immigrant friends and neighbors, and it is up to us to be the helpers. I am asking for every Democrat and every liberal, left-leaning, progressive, or anti-Nazi person in Cherokee to step up and be a helper.
Those of us who can move throughout the county without being targeted have a duty to our community, and if that means going on grocery runs, picking up prescriptions, delivering baby food and diapers, taking pets for a walk, or offering transportation, now is the time to volunteer and be a helper.
Check on the people around you. This is especially important for parents of young children and seniors; we cannot allow anyone to become isolated right now. We are stronger and safer together.
If you see ICE, spread the word; no one should be caught unawares.
Film the agents but do not engage.
We may not be able to force ICE out of this county, but we can and must stand with our immigrant friends and neighbors.
Immigrants are welcome here, and they always will be.
